Every day, we purchase meals from our local restaurants, the ones who have so often helped out our community with donations and fundraiser nights but are now struggling because of the coronavirus social distancing rules.
We deliver those meals to the Los Alamitos Medical Center where they are enjoyed by the healthcare workers on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus. The program was initially funded by a $6,000 donation from OUR Los Al (and The Taste for Los Al) and a $1,000 donation from Alamitos Eyecare.
This is a win-win-win program. Eating good food lifts morale. Preparing and selling delicious food makes it possible for our restaurants to survive this crisis. Donating money to sustain the program allows our community to make a valuable contribution to the cause.
Our first purchase was for 50 meals of enchiladas from Brew kitchen Ale House. Since then we have bought and delivered food from Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Angelina’s Famous Pizza, Chick Fil-A, Katella Deli, Mama’s, Islands, Hof’s Hut, Santa Fe Importers, and Thailusion. Future purchases will be from The Eldo, Macaroni Grill, Crema Cafe and more.
This is an all-volunteer effort with no overhead, and our partnership with OUR Los Al makes all donations tax-deductible. 100% of the money received will go to the restaurants, and 100% of the food will nourish our front-line heroes.
Our goal is to feed the ER and ICU staff and technicians at Los Al Med and hopefully expand to include other local healthcare heroes at a cost of around $2,000 per day. Help us meet that goal.
