17th Taste for Los Al returns to The Shops at Rossmoor on Oct. 14

Good food and good fun and great fundraising return to the Shops at Rossmoor on October 14, 2017 when the 17th annual Taste for Los Al once again brings together the local ABC’s – auction, boosters and culinary delights.

The event is held in the parking lot behind Sprouts and Marshall’s.  Gates open at 6:00 pm and the event ends at 10:00.

This year’s event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Los Alamitos High School — which first welcomed students in September 1967 (although in that first year it was sophomore only and they attended classes at Pine Jr.  High (now McAuliffe) while the new high school at Cerritos and Los Alamitos Blvd. was being built).

The school will also be hosting a series of events at Los Al HS  earlier in the day.

The Taste, which benefits activities and facilities at Los Alamitos High School and then some,  has become one of the largest fundraising events in the area, averaging for the past few years about 3,000 attendees, over forty food establishments and raising close to $250,000 annually.

Booster clubs benefit by keeping the lion’s share of the ticket sale revenues, and all of the silent auction proceeds at their tables .  The Sponsoring non-profit, OUR Los Al, organizes the event and pays for all the logistics (tents, fencing & barricades, tables, lighting, generators, permits, etc.).  After costs are paid OUR Los Al has been able to donate additional  monies for items like the Los Al HS gym scoreboard, softball fences, tennis windscreens, new wrestling mats, baseball locker room improvements, training room storage space and many other items.  Biggest of all was the $239,000 that OUR Los Al paid towards the design and the construction of the all-weather track at the high school.

Tickets were distributed to the participating booster clubs on August 22.
